Green Bonds Framework

Fingrid established a Green Bonds Framework as part of its financing strategy in October 2017. Fingrid issued on the 23rd November a 10 year, EUR 100 million green bond. The issue was the first ever Finnish corporate green bond issue. The bond is listed on the London and Irish Stock Exchanges and is also included into the Climate Bonds Initiative’s global green bond database.

The proceeds raised from Green Bonds will be solely applied to finance or to refinance Eligible Projects as defined in Fingrid's Green Bonds Framework. Second opinions provider, CICERO, has issued a Second Opinion on Fingrid's Green Bond Framework.Projects eligible for Green Bond financing fall within one of the following categories:

- Connecting renewable energy
- Increasing cross-border capacity
- Reducing electricity transmission losses
- Improving energy efficiency via smart grids
