Asta Sihvonen-Punkka appointed Vice-President of ENTSO-E

Fingrid’s Executive Vice President Asta Sihvonen-Punkka has been elected Vice-President of ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, for the period from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2025.

ENTSO-E’s mission is to co-ordinate the activities of European transmission system operators related to the operation and development of the electricity system, as well as electricity market development and R&D activities.  ENTSO-E consists of 39 transmission system operators from EU and EEA states as well as other European countries.

The aim of the co-operation is to promote the internal market for electricity and cross-border trade. ENTSO-E’s duties are largely based on European legislation, in which it has been tasked with preparing proposals for so-called network codes, among other things.

The organisation works in close dialogue with European energy regulatory authority ACER as well as with the European Commission and Parliament, in addition to various stakeholder organisations in the energy market.

“It’s great that as Fingrid we’ve received such a clear vote of confidence from the other transmission system operators. The timing of this role is important, as the European energy market and its rules have been under a lot of pressure. By being involved in ENTSO-E’s key tasks, we will be able to influence and support the development of the common European market,” Asta Sihvonen-Punkka says with regard to her appointment.
