Tammisto substation is being renovated

Finland’s electricity transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj will replace parts of the Tammisto substation. The work will improve the system security of electricity consumption in the Capital Region.

The substation close to the Jumbo shopping centre in Tammisto, Vantaa, was originally built in the 1950s and became an integral part of the electricity transmission network of the company then known as Imatran Voima. Today, Tammisto substation is one of the transformer substations ensuring the Capital Region’s electricity supply. The station's oldest 110 kV equipment still in use went live in 1982.

The replacement project will also involve bringing the appearance of the substation into line with the surrounding area’s town plan. The current 110 kV open switching field will be replaced by a switching station housed in a new station building built on the western part of the plot. The station’s transformer buildings will be landscaped, and parts of the area’s transmission line structures will be dismantled. The Fingrid-owned residential building located in the vicinity of the station will be demolished, and the plot will be reforested and landscaped.

Construction work at the station will begin in June 2020 and be mainly completed by July 2021. Electrical installations will continue from the summer 2021 to the end of 2022. Construction site traffic to the site will mainly pass through Muuntotie.
