A new System Operation Agreement has been signed by the Nordic transmission system operators
The Nordic transmission system operators (TSOs), Energinet, Fingrid, Statnett, Svenska kraftnät and Kraftnät Åland, have signed a new Nordic System Operation Agreement (SOA).
The SOA includes the common operating principles used by the Nordic TSOs to ensure that the Nordic interconnected system is operated with a high level of reliability and quality, within the framework of national and European regulations.
The CEOs of the Nordic TSOs state that the new SOA will further enhance Nordic cooperation, harmonise grid operation practices between the Nordic countries and within Europe, and ensure the system security of the Nordic power system as energy generation becomes increasingly volatile along with the increase in renewable electricity generation and the reduction in balancing power generation.
The new SOA will also have several appendices, of which the appendix on reserves has already been completed. The Nordic TSOs are currently finalising other appendices related to matters such as the electricity balancing, operational security, operational planning, emergencies and restoration, and transmission capacity calculation. The new SOA will gradually replace the existing system operation agreement when the new appendices are completed.
The new SOA and its appendices are published on the ENTSO-E website: Main agreement and LFCR Annex
