Construction of transmission line between Laukaa and Äänekoski underway

Metsä Group's bioproduct mill under construction in Äänekoski will produce more than double the electricity it needs. To transmit the electrical power produced by the mill in the main grid and improve the realiability of transmission, Fingrid will construct a new 110-kilovolt transmission line from Äänekoski to Laukaa. Work started in March.

The Vihtavuori–Koivisto transmission line, 26 kilometres long and located between the substations of Vihtavuori in Laukaa and Koivisto in Äänekoski, will be constructed alongside existing lines, but the transmission line area has been widened by around 20 metres by felling trees in the border zone.

The actual construction work started in March, and it will continue one work phase at a time almost simultaneously along the entire route. Work phases involved in the construction of a transmission line include transporting construction materials to the site, preparing tower foundations, assembling and erecting towers, installing conductors, final cleaning, and tidying up the site.

The investment costs of the transmission line project total around 4.6 million euros, and the project will be complete by the end of 2017. The main contractor of the project is Tecnolines S.r.l.
In addition to constructing the transmission line, Fingrid will expand the Koivisto and Vihtavuori substations with projects totalling around 2.1 million euros. Construction work is underway at both substations and will be complete this spring.
