Decentralised household consumption on the reserve market for the first time

Decentralised electricity consumption by households has been approved for the frequency-controlled normal operation reserve for the first time in the Nordic countries. This is the first time in the Nordic countries, and probably in Europe, that households, together with the electricity supplier, participate in the fast and continuous maintenance of the power balance. Previously, only electricity consumption by industry has participated in the frequency-controlled reserve market in addition to traditional power plant reserves.Household boilers will act as this kind of reserve; they are switched on and off according to fluctuations in frequency. Fingrid maintains the reserve market, which is utilised to safeguard the balance between consumption and production in the electricity system. Frequency-controlled reserves react automatically to fluctuations in the frequency of the electricity system by changing their own electricity production or consumption.
