Fennovoima and Fingrid signed a consultant contract to prepare connections to the national electrical grid

Fennovoima and Fingrid have signed a consultant contract to prepare connections to the national electrical grid. Fennovoima’s nuclear power plant will be connected to the grid with 110 and 400 kilovolt transmission lines.

According to the agreement, Fingrid will be in charge of project management for the connection lines, including basic engineering, permitting process, tendering of the construction contracts and supervising the contractors during the construction. A license from the Energy Authority and other permits are required for the construction of the connection lines.

Environmental impacts of the construction and operation of the transmission lines will be evaluated in a separate Environmental Impact Assessment procedure (EIA). The EIA procedure began in September when Fingrid submitted the EIA program to the North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre). Information gathered from environmental studies, statements and opinions will be utilized in the planning of the power line routes.

Tendering for the construction contracts will begin once the Government has granted the nuclear power plant Construction License to Fennovoima.

Later, separate connection and transmission contracts will be signed with Fingrid.

Fingrid Plc. maintains and develops the nation-wide high-voltage grid, which enables electricity transmission in Finland.
