Price coupling of day-ahead markets expands to Spain and Portugal on 13 May 2014

On 13 May 2014, Spain and Portugal joined the Northwestern Europe (NWE) day-ahead market price coupling system.

Price coupling was introduced on the day-ahead markets, or spot markets, of Northwestern Europe (NWE) on February 4, 2014.

From 13 May, the arrangement covers the Nordic countries, Baltic region, Germany, France, Benelux countries, Great Britain, Spain and Portugal.

The procedure means calculating the price for electricity in the entire area for each hour of the next day simultaneously, taking into account all purchase and sales offers and transfer capacities.
