Disturbance on Fenno-Skan 1 and 2 high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link

Fenno-Skan 1 and 2 interconnections between Finland and Sweden tripped today 26th April 2012 at 7:23. The common disturbance was caused by a failure of the auxiliary supply at Rauma substation.

​The transmission flow before the disturbance was full 1350 MW from Sweden to Finland. As a result of disturbance Fingrid started reserve gas turbines totally 510 MW and activated up-regulations from the balancing market to manage system security. Fenno-Skan 2 HVDC link was taken back in operation at 9:00 am but he preparations for Fenno-Skan 1 recovery are still ongoing.
