Nokian Capacitors Oy to supply Fingrid with SVC unit

Fingrid Oyj, which is responsible for the electricity transmission grid in Finland, and Nokian Capacitors Oy have signed today, 27 April 2007, a contract on the delivery of an SVC unit intended for the control of reactive power at the Kangasala substation in Central Finland.The SVC (Static Var Compensator) improves the damping of low-frequency power oscillations in the grid and supports voltage, hence increasing the disturbance resistance and system security of the grid.

SVC construction will commence in the autumn. Electrical installations will begin in the spring of 2008, and the unit will be commissioned in the winter of 2009. The value of the contract is approx. 8 million euros. Fingrid has ordered the transformer required by the unit as a separate purchase.
