Nordel published its forecast of the power balance for the present winter

Nordel, the co-operation organisation of Nordic system operators, has published its forecast concerning the power balance in the Nordic countries during the current winter period. The forecast based on peak consumption has been drawn up for the conditions of a very cold winter which occurs statistically approximately once every 10 years.Nordel's forecast of the power drawn up in the form of a report has been published at Nordel's Internet pages at www.nordel.org under title "Rapporter".

The forecast indicates that the power balance between southern and central Sweden is the weakest. However, this power balance has improved somewhat thanks to the power reserve agreement made by Sweden at the end of last year. The power margin in southern Norway is also very small and depends on electricity transfer from northern Norway and western Denmark. According to Nordel's estimate, it would be possible to import electricity from Germany to Denmark, which would help out the power balance in Sweden and Norway.

Electricity imported from Russia gives Finland a power margin which can be utilised during a potential power shortage.
