Movement of soil caused a risk in southern Finland

Fingrid Oyj, which is responsible for the main electricity transmission grid in Finland, launched safety measures at the crossing of Vihdintie and Kehä 3 in Vantaa this afternoon. Adjacent to the crossing area, there is a 400 kilovolt (kV) transmission line tower, whose inclination caused a risk of conductors suspended by the tower dropping onto the road as a result of the movement of soil.Fingrid was informed of the inclination of the tower in the afternoon. The Finnish Road Administration is carrying out earth moving work in the area. Voltage on the transmission line running between Tammisto in Vantaa and Espoo was disconnected immediately, and Fingrid ordered machinery at the site to secure that the conductors suspended by the tower of approximately 30 metres high could be brought down in a controlled manner. Authorities were also immediately informed of the situation.

Electricity supply from the main grid to the Helsinki region is now carried out by means of special arrangements. The situation is further complicated by a tower falling in a forest area in Pyhtää at the building site of the transmission line being built from Länsisalmi in Vantaa to Kymi near Kotka.
