Connection agreement application

Application for connection agreement

Fingrid has gradually introduced connection agreement applications to maintain an up-to-date overview of the situation and to ensure that the transmission grid’s transmission capacity is not exceeded and that connections through other network companies are agreed on fair and common principles.

Connection agreement applications concern consumption sites, power plants and electricity storage facilities of at least 2 MW throughout Finland. Temporary regional lower power limits are indicated on the map on the right side of the page.

In the connection agreement application, Fingrid’s approval must be sought for concluding a connection agreement concerning consumption, a power plant or electricity storage, or for increasing the capacity of an existing connection agreement, including connections through distribution grid companies.

An application for a connection agreement can be submitted when the project to be connected meets the following criteria:

  1. The project to be connected has a legally binding land use plan and a legally binding building or construction permit.
  2. If the project’s connection requires the construction of a 110 kV or higher connection line, an application for the connection line expropriation permit must be submitted to the authority. If a expropriation permit is not required, the customer must present the project permit issued by the Energy Authority and a permit for the use of the transmission line corridor.

If the above-mentioned criteria are met and the customer is willing to enter into a connection agreement, the application for the connection agreement can be submitted by filling in the form on the right side of the page and attaching it to a connection enquiry. Certificates of the legal validity of the building/construction permit and of the connection line permits must be submitted before concluding the connection agreement, but they do not need to be attached to the connection agreement application.

Customers directly connected to the transmission grid complete the form in its entirety. A customer connected to the distribution or regional network fills out the form and the network company sends the application to Fingrid. A customer connected to the distribution or area network may, if they so wish, remain anonymous to Fingrid, but even in these situations Fingrid must obtain information on electricity consumption and the connection point in order to determine the adequacy of the transmission grid capacity.

Fingrid’s reply is valid for two months, during which time the connection agreement must be concluded or the connection agreement application will be void. Fingrid will not process applications if the project does not meet the above-mentioned criteria.

The application is free of charge. Applications are processed confidentially, but Fingrid may publish anonymised summary data on received connection agreement applications.
