Fingrid to build three substations in Satakunta
Finland’s transmission system operator Fingrid will build three new substations in Nakkila, Harjavalta and Kokemäki to ensure a reliable electricity supply for industrial operators and new projects in the region. The substations will be built with environmentally-friendly SF6-free technology.
Fingrid is building three new substations in Harjavalta, Nakkila and Kokemäki in Satakunta in cooperation with customers. Caruna, Lammaisten Energia, Länsi-Suomen Voima’s hydroelectric power plant in Harjavalta, Kolsin Voima’s hydroelectric power plant in Kolsi and Boliden’s plants in Harjavalta will connect to the substations. The new substations will enable the new projects planned for the region to connect to the main grid.
The substations will be built with environmentally-friendly SF6-free technology. SF6 is a very effective and permanent dielectric gas traditionally used in electricity transmission switchgear. Now, innovations make it possible to phase out SF6 dielectric gas, which is harmful to the environment. Fingrid’s goal is for all new 110-kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear to use new dielectric technology as of 2025.
Construction of the substations will begin in 2024, and they will be completed in 2026.
