Leväsuo substation to be replaced

Fingrid will replace the aged 110 kV substation in Leväsuo, Oulu. The new switching station will improve the security of energy supply in the area and is a necessary investment to safeguard the electricity supply in the Oulu region. The Leväsuo substation was built in 1960. It is a key part of the City of Oulu's electricity transmission grid.

The substation will be built next to the existing air-insulated switching station. The new switching station is a gas-insulated indoor switching station that takes up less space than the current station. The old switching station will be dismantled. Some transmission line towers near the substation will also be replaced to route the transmission lines to the new substation.

The construction of the substation is due to be completed between 2021 and 2023. A more detailed date can be given after the schedules of other main grid projects in the Oulu region, Kainuu and Meri-Lappi are confirmed.
