Fingrid has updated the instructions for the simulation models for grid energy storage systems and power generating facilities - webinar on the updates Feb 24

Fingrid has published new updated instructions for PSS/E and PSCAD simulation models to be submitted as part of the verification process for type C and D grid energy storage systems and power generating facilities. For power generating facilities, the updated instructions apply to power park modules. Fingrid will host a webinar on the instruction updates on Tuesday, 24 February, at 13-14.

The provision of simulation models is an important part of the verification process for the gird code compliance of power generating facilities and grid energy storage systems. The Finnish power system is becoming increasingly converted-dominated. As a significant amount of generation technology connected to the grid through converter is integrated to the system, it becomes even more important to Fingrid to have accurate simulation models that represent well the functionalities of the facilities.

Fingrid has previously published a joint modelling instructions for both PSCAD and PSS/E simulation models. In the newly released update, the modelling instructions have been separated and both simulation model tool has now its own independent instruction document. The new instruction for PSCAD models has been developed in cooperation with Nordic transmission system operators Statnett, Svenska kraftnät and Energinet.

The updated instructions and the associated test lists to be submitted with models can be found on Fingrid’s website: Modelling instructions

These updated versions of modelling instructions enter into force on 10 February 2026 and shall be used as the reference for:

  • Those Stage 1 projects, for which specific study requirements are given after 10.2.2026
  • Those Stage 1 projects, for which the model is submitted to Oma Fingrid platform first time after 1.9.2026. To be considered as submitted before 1.9.2026, the model shall be accompanied with test list that shows that the model fulfils the relevant grid code (SJV/VJV) functional requirements.
  • Those Stage 2 projects, for which the model is submitted to Oma Fingrid platform first time after 1.10.2026. To be considered as submitted before 1.10 2026, the model shall be accompanied with test list that shows that the model fulfils the relevant grid code (SJV/VJV) functional requirements. Please note, that the Stage 2 model can be submitted only after the commissioning tests.

The previous modelling instructions and associated test template lists are moved to the Archive section of Fingrid’s Connection to the Main Grid.
