Fingrid Magazine 2/2025: our vision for main grid development
This year’s second issue of Fingrid’s stakeholder magazine presents our electricity system vision up to 2040 on the basis of four scenarios. The current boom in grid construction is posing its own challenges, as it also requires planned outages.
In this issue’s editorial, Antti Keskinen, Senior Vice President, Markets, writes about the boom years in the electricity market and the many upgrades that are leading us towards more real-time and market-based operations. He notes that an efficient power system must be coupled with a well-functioning electricity market.
In our cover story, Jussi Närhi, Expert and Annika Ahtiainen, Head of Strategic Grid Planning, present Fingrid’s electricity system vision, which outlines long-term development paths for Finland's energy system on the basis of four different scenarios. The final report on this vision will be published in the autumn.
Planned outages during grid construction impose restrictions on production and thereby cause inconvenience to electricity producers. “We aim to ensure that our customers always have enough time to adapt to the situation,” says Petri Parviainen, Unit Manager at Fingrid, in an interview for the magazine. However, it is not always possible to foresee everything – surprises do occur. The situation will ease once projects on the west coast have been completed.
In our customer interviews, CPC Finland/Koppö Energia, Eurowind Energy, Taaleri Energia, Green North Energy, Merus Power and Blastr Green Steel tell us about their current projects and why they are investing in Finland.
Some of the other articles in issue 2/2025 of the Fingrid Magazine:
- Tackling a power shortfall in the era of renewable energy production
- Production and consumption as neighbours
- Green transition increases the number of substations
- A grid service fee reform would be worthwhile
The printed version of the Fingrid Magazine will be published for customers and subscribers. A PDF version of the magazine is available on Fingrid’s website, and the articles will be published in phases in Fingrid’s online magazine at www.fingridlehti.fi. The magazine is also published in English.
