Report on offered and procured capacity in the Finnish reserve markets - sorted by technology

Due to the ongoing energy transition, the need for balancing in the power system has been increasing. Fingrid procures reserves by market-based and technology-neutral procedures. Fingrid has now published a report on offered and procured capacities in the Finnish reserve markets from January 2018 to February 2022, sorted by technology.

Currently, the technologies which contribute to the balancing of the electricity system by participating to the Finnish reserve markets are hydro power, thermal power, wind power, demand side response and battery storages. There are differences between different reserve products and not all technologies are offering their flexibility to all reserve products and market places. In order to secure the balancing of the power system, contribution from all possible reserve providers is needed. Fingrid warmly welcomes also all the new reserve providers to participate in the reserve markets.

The aim of the report is to provide the stakeholders a possibility to understand better and analyze the function of the Finnish reserve markets.
