Future scenarios for Finland’s electricity system published

Fingrid has published a draft of Finland's electricity system vision. The vision includes four different future scenarios for the development of electricity production and consumption for the years 2035 and 2045. Comment the draft report latest by 15th of September.

Ambitious climate goals, an accelerating energy transition and electrification of society challenge the entire electricity system. In the middle of the current energy crisis, besides solving the acute situation, it is also important to take care of the future. Increasing Europe's energy self-sufficiency and the rapid transition away from fossil fuels now play an even more important role.

In order to examine the future electricity system, Fingrid has published a draft report of the electricity system vision, which present four different future scenarios for the development of electricity production and consumption for the years 2035 and 2045. The purpose of the vision work is to discuss needs, challenges, and opportunities the energy transition creates for the electricity market, the grid and the technical functionality of the electricity system.

When commenting the draft report, we hope our stakeholders to provide views how Finland should solve future challenges. Consultation period for the draft report is open until 15th of September 2022 and we expect to receive comments as well on the draft scenarios as on the discussion questions regarding the broad perspective of the electricity system. Please provide your comments on draft report by sending e-mail to strateginen.verkkosuunnittelu@fingrid.fi.

We will work on the scenarios and issues related to the electricity system based on the stakeholder feedback. Based on the finalized scenarios, vision of the network investment needed for the carbon neutral and competitive Finland will be created in the later phase of the work.
