Intraday trading pilot to continue

Fingrid has decided to extend the intraday trading pilot period that began last January until the end of the coming winter season, i.e. until 31 March 2021. The pilot concerns trading in power exchanges and the experiences it has yielded have been positive.

Fingrid’s customers and Finnish market participants have expressed a preference for having a possibility for intraday trading close to the start of the delivery hour. Since mid-January, this has been possible in Finland’s bidding area until the time of delivery. We are now responding to the wishes of our customers by continuing the pilot until the end of the coming winter season, i.e. until 31 March 2021. This will also allow us to gather more experiences. The pilot concerns trading in power exchanges.

Fingrid evaluates the success of the pilot based on, for example, customer satisfaction, traded volumes and Finland’s total imbalance. Based on the results of the pilot, Fingrid evaluates the possibility to continue with trading until the start of the delivery hour also after the pilot period. Fingrid reserves the right to suspend the pilot in the unlikely case that the pilot has a negative impact on system security.
