Fingrid’s new substation in Teuva will connect wind power to the power grid

A significant amount of new wind power capacity is being planned for South Ostrobothnia. Fingrid is constructing a new substation in Kärppiö, municipality of Teuva. The substation will occupy a prime location near the planned wind power capacity and can connect up to 1,000 MW of new wind power capacity to the power grid.

On Tuesday this week, Fingid Oyj and Empower PN Oy signed a contract on the implementation of the Kärppiö substation. Signed remotely, the value of the contract is approximately EUR 14 million. The total costs of the Kärppiö substation project are approximately EUR 24 million.

Earthworks at the Kärppiö substation will be performed by Kreate Oy, who will hand over the construction site to the substation contractor Empower next spring. Most of the construction work under the substation contract will be completed by the end of 2021. Installations of electrical equipment will begin at the end of 2021 and will continue until autumn 2022.

The substation’s new main transformers will arrive from Kolektor ETRA’s factories in Slovenia via the port of Kristiinankaupunki in spring 2022. Connection of the newly constructed wind power capacity to the power grid via the Kärppiö substation will begin in autumn 2022.
