Forest Line project continues

The electricity production of thermal power plants in southern Finland is steadily declining and will be replaced by affordable and carbon-neutral energy production in the north. As the demand for electricity grows in southern Finland, the power line called Forest Line will contribute to Finland remaining a single price area for electricity.

In the future, electricity produced in northern Finland and Sweden will be transmitted to southern Finland more efficiently with the help of the 400-kilovolt Forest Line. Four of the power line construction project’s six sections have now been signed.

The total length of the Forest Line is approximately 303 kilometres, and the project is divided into construction sections A–F. Construction agreements were signed for section D on Friday 20 September and for section A on Tuesday 24 September. The combined value of the sections is approximately EUR 22 million. The contractor for section D is Eltel Networks Corporation and the Spain-based Elecnor S.A. for section A.

The contractor for the construction of sections B and C is Destia Ltd. The agreement for this 134-kilometre power line project was signed in August 2019.

Work on the Forest Line will start in the autumn of 2019, and the entire power line will be completed in the autumn of 2022.
