The repair work on the EstLink 2 electricity transmission link has been completed, and the link is expected to return to commercial use on Friday. The actual repair work has been carried out at sea since May.
The repair work has proceeded as planned and in close cooperation with various parties. During the repair work, the damaged submarine cable was replaced with a new cable over a distance of approximately one kilometer. Excellent cooperation with the authorities has enabled the repair work to be carried out safely in a busy maritime area.
"The tests related to the commissioning of the cable began on Tuesday evening and have continued without issues throughout the night," says unit manager Kimmo Nepola. The cable will be returned to commercial use after a successful test period.
EstLink 2 was damaged on Christmas Day and has been out of service since then. The damage to the transmission link has not affected the functioning of the electricity system in Finland, but the fault temporarily reduced the electricity transmission capacity between the countries by 650 megawatts.
