EstLink 2 electricity transmission link between Finland and Estonia to return to commercial use at the end of June
The repair work on the EstLink 2 electricity transmission connection, which was damaged on Christmas Day, has progressed faster than previously estimated. The connection is expected to return to commercial use on June 25.
The actual repair work on the EstLink 2 electricity transmission link began in May. The work has progressed in favorable conditions at sea, and according to the current estimate, it will be completed after Midsummer. The connection is expected to return to commercial use on June 25, once the repair work is completed and the tests ensuring the cable connection's functionality have been successfully concluded.
During the repair work, the submarine cable will be replaced with a new cable over a distance of approximately one kilometer. Extensive repair work has been planned and prepared in cooperation with various parties since the cable was damaged.
"The progress of the cable repair work has required close cooperation between various parties. Excellent cooperation with the authorities has also enabled safe working conditions for the repair vessel in a busy maritime area," says Unit Manager Kimmo Nepola.
Further information on the return of the EstLink 2 connection to commercial use will be provided once the repair work is completed.
