Failure on EstLink 2 interconnection 26 January 2024

The direct current interconnection EstLink 2 between Finland and Estonia was disconnected from the grid on 26th January 2024 at 00:10 (eet). At the time of disconnection, the power transmission of the connection was approximately 130 MW from Estonia to Finland.
 
An investigation into the incident has been launched. The disturbance did not affect the system security of the Finnish electricity system.
 

Update 26th January 2024 at 8:30 pm (eet): The exact fault location has not yet been found in the measurements, so the search for the fault is still ongoing. According to the latest estimate, the connection will be out of service until 4th February 2024.

Update 28th January 2024 at 3:40 pm (eet): The failure of the EstLink 2 connection has been investigated in close cooperation with the Estonian transmission system operator Elering and various authorities since Friday morning. On Sunday, the fault was located on Estonian shoreline. According to the latest estimate, the connection will be out of service until 29th Febryary 2024.
