Disturbance on Estlink 2 interconnection

27th Dec 2019 at 20:02 a disturbance was detected on 650 MW Estlink 2 interconnection between Finland and Estonia. The link doesn't start to power operation at the moment. The investigation of the reason in ongoing.

Update 28.12.2019 at 18:15 the investigation still continues during the coming hours by testing the stations and cable conditions.

Update 28.12.2019 at 20:30 the reason for the failure was not found in the tests on Finnish side. Tests will continue tomorrow.

Update 29.12.2019 at 22:00 After long test day the reason of the disturbance is not yet fully confirmed. The investigation will continue on Monday.

Update 30.12.2019 at 20:53. Fingrid starts fault repair actions at EstLink2 Anttila converter station on Tuesday morning to replace faulty high voltage DC voltage measurement unit with a spare unit. The replacement, commissioning and testing required to valid correct performance of Estlink 2 will last until Thursday 2nd of January (CET), and in case of successful repair process EstLink 2 will be available for electricity markets on Friday 3rd January.

Update 2.1.2020 at 8:50 The fault repair actions were completed early on Wednesday at EstLink 2 Anttila converter station. Despite the successful replacement, certain parts of the validation tests failed in such manner that extensive, detailed investigations at Anttila converter station are required. The present estimate is that EstLink 2 will be again available for electricity markets on Monday 13rd January.

Update 5.1.2020 at 10:05. EstLink2 is back in operation and it's capacity will be given immediately to the intra-day market and day-ahead market for Monday 6th of January. The fault reason was successfully identified during Friday 3rd of January and repair was performed on Saturday 4th of January. A successful test run was performed during night between 4th and 5th of January.
