Repair works of Fenno-Skan 1 interconnection cable failure progress

Fenno-Skan 1 cable repair vessel Topaz Installer has arrived to failure location near Finnish coastline and has started the repair works. On the vessel there is a few kilometers of spare cable, which is used to replace the faulty cable with joints on both ends. One joint work needs roughly one week time. The ice circumstances in the area have delayed the repair works a bit. New estimation is to get cable repaired before 17th April 2013. The progress of the repair works are dependent of weather conditions in the area.
The 550 megawatt Fenno-Skan 1 interconnection between Finland and Sweden tripped on Tuesday evening 12th February 2013 at 19:42 (eet). The location of the failure is at Finnish coastline near Rihtniemi. The submarine cable is damaged due to an internal failure in the cable.
