ENTSO-E published outlook for the power balance in the winter period

ENTSO-E, the organisation of the European electricity transmission system operators, has published an outlook for the power situation in the coming winter of 2009-2010.According to the report published on ENTSO-E’s website, no major problems are to be expected in the power situation prevailing in the winter of 2009-2010. The report states that France, Latvia and Finland will depend on imported electricity in very cold weather while other countries will have a surplus.

The total power balance in the Nordic countries will show a surplus. The power balance has improved from the previous winter primarily because of reduced electricity consumption owing to the economic recession. Norway, Sweden and Denmark will have a surplus in their power balance while Finland will experience a deficit of up to 1,300 megawatts in very cold weather.   Further information: Timo Kaukonen, Fingrid Oyj,  tel. +358 30 395 4228
