Information for consumers
What does Fingrid do? What is a TSO or main grid?
Fingrid Oyj is the TSO, transmission system operator, of Finland. We are the enterprise which takes care of the functioning of the nation-wide high-voltage grid, the backbone of electricity transmission. We transmit electricity continuously from electricity generating companies to distribution network companies and industrial companies. We take care of the cross-border connections and promote the functioning of the electricity market.
In accordance with the Finnish Electricity Market Act, Fingrid has, as the main grid owner, compiled a ten-year main grid development plan concerning its main grid and the grid's connections to other electricity networks. The main grid development plan is the Finnish basis for the compilation of the EU-wide grid development plan stipulated in the EC regulation on cross-border exchanges in electricity.
