The new terms and conditions and pricing structure for the main grid service have been confirmed
The Energy Authority has approved Fingrid's new Main Grid Service Terms and Conditions and the structure of the Main Grid Service Pricing. These terms apply to all main grid customers and are annexed to the Main Grid Contract. The new Main Grid Service Terms and Conditions will come into effect on 29.9.2025, and the Main Grid Service Pricing will come into effect on 1.1.2026. The prices for the main grid service for the year 2026 will be announced separately in the autumn.
Fingrid's Main Grid Service Terms and Conditions and Main Grid Service Pricing are being updated. The purpose of the changes is to enable the introduction of a power-based fee for energy storages and the transition to quarter-hour pricing in the electricity day-ahead market, clarify invoicing principles, and support the operation of the electricity system in changing operating situations.
The terms apply to all main grid customers and are annexed to the Main Grid Contract. The new Main Grid Service Terms and Conditions (Annex 1) will come into effect on 29.9.2025, and the Main Grid Service Pricing (Annex 2) will come into effect on 1.1.2026.
The annex 3 of the Main Grid Contract, "Customer Connection Points and Measurement and Incoiving Information," has also been updated. Annex 3 no longer includes examples on invoicing; instead, the principles have been transferred to Annexes 1 and 2, and Fingrid has published examples of invoicing applications separately on its website. The new template for Annex 3 has been published on Fingrid's website. The customer-specific Annex 3 will be updated to the new template and signed by 1.1.2026.
Summary of the main changes to the confirmed terms and conditions:
- From 29.9.2025, Fingrid may request consumption plans and energy storage charging and discharging plans from main grid customers, effective for distribution network operators only from 1.1.2027. The plans will be submitted by email.
- From 1.1.2026, the introduction of a power-based fee for energy storage and including energy storage in the calculation of consumption charges.
- From 1.1.2026, a change in the principles by which the customer is exempt from the power-based fees for power plants and energy storages.
- From 1.1.2026, Fingrid will apply the collateral handling in accordance with section 10.2 of the new Main Grid Service Terms and Conditions. A security related to the electricity tax will be charged if its amount exceeds €100,000.
The power data of energy storage and hybrid power plants will be collected from main grid customers in October-November 2025. The main grid customer is obliged to provide power data also for energy storages and hybrid power plants connected to their grid with a capacity of at least 1 MW. The power data will initially be collected by email as Excel files, and Fingrid will model the billing data in the Oma Fingrid and add them to Annex 3. In the future, customers will be required to maintain the data themselves in the Oma Fingrid.
We will provide more information on the topic in a webinar on 25.9.2025 from 9:00 to 10:00 and at the Main Grid Service Day on 29.9.2025. These events will be in Finnish.
