Frequency Quality Report for 2024 Published

Fingrid has released a report on the frequency quality of the Nordic power system for the year 2024. The report also presents key figures from previous years.

The frequency quality report examines how often the frequency deviated from the normal frequency range (49.9 – 50.1 Hz) and how long these deviations lasted. Additionally, the report analyzes the amount of periodic oscillation in the Nordic power system frequency and its impact on frequency quality. Other indicators describing frequency quality are also compiled in the report, along with a summary of the most significant frequency disturbances that occurred during 2024.

In 2024, frequency quality remained comparable to previous years. Compared to 2023, the frequency was more consistent, as indicated by a decrease in both standard deviation and frequency area. The amount of periodic oscillation also decreased significantly compared to the previous year — a change not previously observed in the measurement period starting from 2019. However, the cumulative time within the standard frequency range exceeded the target value of 10,000 minutes, and the number of frequency deviations increased, particularly in terms of short-term deviations. The number of large deviations exceeding 300 mHz decreased to 11 from 14 in the previous year.

The report is available in English on our website. Fingrid has also published the frequency data used as source material in its Open Data service. New frequency data is added periodically.
