Fingrid assures the technical functioning of the power system in Finland by maintaining so-called system services, which are divided into four categories on the basis of their primary purpose:
The objective of system services is that the Finnish power system is operated in a technically and commercially purposeful manner. As far as the reserves relating to the system services are concerned, Fingrid's goal is to make sure that a sufficient volume of reserves is maintained continuously in Finland in a cost-efficient manner and in accordance with the power system operation agreement signed with the other Nordic transmission system operators. Since Fingrid can only produce part of the system services, the maintenance of reserves is primarily arranged as a service purchased from electricity producers and reserve holders.
