Grid services 2012-2015

Agreeing on grid service

The grid service is agreed upon through a main grid contract which is signed between a customer connected to the Finnish main grid and Fingrid.

Content of grid service

After signing the main grid contract, the customer obtains a right to transmit electricity to and from the Finnish main grid through his connection point.

Fingrid develops the main grid in Finland and connections to other interconnected power systems on the basis of anticipated transmission needs and by following the European grid dimensioning principles and engineering practices.

Grid development is based on maintaining system security, the customers’ future needs, promoting the functioning of the electricity market in the region of the Baltic Sea, cost efficiency, and management of the ageing of the grid.

Fingrid secures to the customer the technical reliability of the system and contributes to the sufficient quality level of electricity. As the responsible system operator, Fingrid ensures constantly that the Finnish power system is maintained and operated in a technically appropriate manner.

Main grid contract

Main grid contract consists of grid service, supply of reactive power, maintenance of reactive power reserves and information exchange between a customer and Fingrid.

Main grid contract includes following appendices:

Appendix 1 Customer’s connection points, and measurements used as the basis of invoicing
Appendix 2 Application instruction for information exchange
Appendix 3 Customer-specific information for information exchange
Appendix 4 Application instruction for the supply of reactive power and maintenance of reactive power reserves
Appendix 5 Reactive power reserve plants

Fees for grid service

Fingrid charges a consumption fee, output from the main grid fee and input to the main grid fee for the grid service.

Fingrid shall inform of changes in the fees with reasoning and confirm the fee components and unit prices annually by the end of each September.

The consumption fee concerns the consumption of electric energy beyond the connection point between the customer and Fingrid. The consumption fee is specified separately for winter periods and for other times. Winter period is the period from 1 January to 31 March and from 1 November to 31 December, including these days.

The input to the main grid and output from the main grid fees are based on the volume of electric energy transmitted through the customer’s connection point.

The grid service fees are invoiced monthly. Fingrid is responsible for arranging and maintaining the measurements of electricity transmitted through the connection point.
