ELVIS

The transmission grid is constantly being maintained and developed. These principles are described in Fingrid's asset management policy. For asset and operation management, an information system is needed that supports operations at all stages of processes, from long-term planning to daily operations  and maintenance.

At the ELVIS pages is Fingrid’s asset management process described from a perspective of information management, and how different IT-tools are used to support these processes.

History

In 2008, Fingrid launched a project, the aim of which was to build a new information system that supported asset and operation management and was based on product-based solutions. After a long procurement process, in 2012 a solution was decided upon that consisted of eight products. These are integrated into each other so that the master data of the grid  assets are only located in one application. This new data system that supports asset and operation management goes by the name of ELVIS (an acronym for ELectricity Verkko Information System).

The first parts of the system were introduced in autumn 2013 and the last ones was taken into operational use during 2016.

ELVIS solution

ELVIS has been strongly integrated into Fingrid’s other systems, such as financial management. IBM is acting as system integrator with overall responsibility for ELVIS.

In the ELVIS solution, asset register, maintenance management as well as outage management are handled by IBM Maximo, that is strongly integrated with ESRI ArcGIS mapping solutions.

Other parts belonging to the system are Oracle project portfolio management, an SAP mobile user interface, Intelligent Process Solutions software for protection settings management, Electrocon protection simulation and Siemens' network calculation and network model management applications. The ELVIS solution has also a strong integration to SCADA through OSIsoft PI.
